Primary French and German
Teaching is pupil-centred, engaging and purposeful. A range of audio, visual and kinaesthetic learning styles (e.g. actions) are used in the teaching and learning process. Learning the French / German language with songs, games and poems also is key.
Pupils work towards being able to speak French / German using sentences with appropriate pronunciation.
Pupils are supported in being able to express simple ideas with clarity and write phrases and short sentences from memory.
Pupils will be supported in having an understanding in basic French / German grammar.
Secondary German ( GCSE / AS / A Level )
Teaching is pupil-centred, engaging and purposeful. A range of audio, visual and kinaesthetic learning styles are used in the teaching and learning process.
In reading and listening, pupils are supported to use different strategies to boost memory by helping them to be able to visualise vocabulary words and groups of words e.g. brainstorming diagrams. Pupils are also encouraged to maximise their marks by being taught communication strategies to work out the meaning of unfamiliar German words (e.g. spielen/Spieler/Spiel.)
In spoken German, pupils practise how to justify their opinions and encouraged and supported to develop their answers by giving reasons for liking/disliking something using words such as "weil" and "obwohl" to give an opinion.
In written German, pupils' learning is scaffolded to help them to be able to explain different viewpoints, to structure their narrated responses logically and where appropriate (e.g. events) in sequence using sequencers (erstens/zweitens/danach.)
